About the Recipe

When I got my first Thermomix and became a consultant almost a year ago, I wanted quick, easy and healthy recipes for my family - bliss balls fit this description. This was one of the first bliss ball recipes I tried and over time I’ve altered it to include more of the nutrients we require as part of our diet.

My kids love these -  I have to limit how many they eat in a day. They are so quick and easy, and using the Thermomix my children are able to make them from beginning to end without help, giving them confidence and independence.

Ingredients

  • 255g pitted dates

  • 45g dried blueberries (can substitute for dried cranberries) - can use up to 70g

  • 45g hazelnuts (skin on or blanched) - can use up to 70g

  • 45g almonds (skin on) - can use up to 70g

  • 45g pistachios (shelled unsalted) - can use up to 70g

  • 2 pinches ground cinnamon - I usually add more as we like cinnamon and the health benefits are a bonus

Directions

  • I use my Thermomix to make this process much faster, and it cuts and binds the ingredients together really well. If you don’t have one you can use a regular blender or similar appliance. Keep in mind, nuts can be really hard so you may have to extend the mixing time and/or give your machine a break to avoid burning out the motor.

  • If the dates are not soft, soak them in boiling water for half an hour, or if you’re organised, soak overnight

  • Combine all ingredients and blend for approximately 20 seconds

  • Roll into balls. This quantity will make 30 walnut size balls, more if smaller

  • Store in an airtight container and refrigerate until ready to eat

Additional Information

  • If there are nuts you don’t like or cannot eat, these can be substituted for the nuts you do like. Different nuts contain different minerals, I like to alternate the nuts used each time I make these, so we consume a variety of nutrients. Likewise, additional spices can be added to suit your own taste.

  • The greater the volume of nuts, the firmer the bliss balls will be.

  • These will last months in the fridge, if they don’t get eaten quickly.
