Cherie Johnson

Cherie Johnson is a proud Gamilaroi woman and an active member of the Awabakal Community.  She is the founder and managing director of Speaking in Colour, an award winning 100% Aboriginal owned and operated company (90% Aboriginal women) dedicated to embedding  Aboriginal cultural perspectives into classrooms, government policy, boardrooms and workplaces.  She is a highly regarded lecturer and keynote speaker in Aboriginal culture and education and renowned as an advisor for creating culturally safe workplaces.  She is passionate about ensuring business success and supports positive social impact in local communities.

Cherie has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Sydney and is an accomplished artist and curator.  She was a finalist in the 2014 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA), and nominated Indigenous Curator of the Year in 2020, 2022 and 2023.

She holds a Diploma in Teaching from the University of Newcastle and is a PhD candidate researching The effects of the revitalisation of cultural practices on first nation women in the contemporary context.
